'Habitual offender' killed in alleged encounter with police

A suspected robber, John Muhammad, was killed in a police shootout in New Karachi after a robbery spree.

A suspected robber was killed in an alleged exchange of fire with the police in New Karachi while his accomplice managed to flee the spot. Body of the dead robber was transported to the Civil Hospital for legal proceedings.

According to SHO Bilal Colony Asrar Afridi, the deceased and his accomplice robbed a citizen, Amjad Hussain, of his cash and mobile phone in a hair salon in New Karachi Sector 5M from where they escaped.

They also robbed another citizen after running from the salon who fired at them with his weapon.

After receiving this information, the police personnel on patrol started chasing the robbers. When they saw the police coming they opened fire which led a two-way exchange of fire. One of the dacoits was killed on the spot while the other managed to escape.

The SHO said the dead dacoit has been identified as John Muhammad and a 9mm pistol, loaded magazine and four stolen mobile phones were recovered from his possession. The deceased accused was a hardened criminal and six cases are registered against him in different police stations. He had been arrested four times before. His body has been transferred to Civil Hospital for legal proceedings and raids are being conducted in search for his absconding accomplice.
