Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) filed a Constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court on Thursday alleging that the public funds were “severely misused” during Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s trip to the UK last month.

A PTI press release said that the entire entourage, of around 70 people, was staying at the exclusive Churchill Hotel in London and a fleet of 30 limousines was also hired during the trip, costing the National Exchequer around one million dollars.

“Our poor country is going through a severe economic crisis, lack of energy, inflation, poverty and joblessness, and therefore we feel the perpetrators should be brought before the Honourable Courts and held accountable for their actions in violation of the Constitution and our fundamental rights,” stated the press release.

The PTI has also made Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) a party to the case as “it is believed that a big aircraft was used in this trip causing great loss and delays in travel to the citizens of Pakistan.”
