ISLAMABAD: Reopening of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases against Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif should not be termed as political victimisation of the PML-N leaders, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Wednesday.

Speaking in Islamabad after a cabinet meeting, Kaira said that by reopening the cases filed during former President General Pervez Musharraf's regime, Interior Minister Rehman Malik was only doing his job.

“Sharif brothers should not be afraid of facing the courts as they had always been lucky in getting justice in time,” he said.

Implementing emergency

Referring to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s remark regarding the option of emergency if the Prime Minister fails to implement the Supreme Court’s orders, Kaira said that the Supreme Court has no authority to do as it is exclusive right of the executive.

Kaira also dispelled the impression that Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministers boycotted the cabinet meeting, saying that they had some engagements in Karachi.

Why were they sleeping for 4.5 years? I remember how Rehman Malik openly threatened Nawaz Shareef with these cases while they were sitting on them for 4.5 years so that both PMLN and PPP can continue their loot and now when elections are coming all of a sudden they have change of heart.
