LAHORE: Former Pakistan Air Force chief Rao Qamar Suleman has been appointed as the new chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He had previously appointed as PIA Managing Director.

Suleman was appointed as the Managing Director of PIA last month, and now replaces Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar as chairman. He has been appointed under the polices and guidelines of the PIA Act 1956.

Suleman retired from his post of PAF chief on March 18, after completing his three-year term, and was replaced by Air Marshal Tahir Raffiq Butt.

Suleman has overseen a successful term which involved key inductions into the PAF. This includes the serial production and induction of the JF-17 fighter aircraft that Pakistan co-developed with China. This period also saw the arrival of the first of new block 52 F-16 D air crafts and the upgradation of the existing F-16 block 15, A and B fighters.
