QAU to confer honorary doctorate degree on Turkish PM

Ceremony to be held at Presidency on Tuesday.

ISLAMABAD: Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) will confer an honorary doctorate in International Relations upon Turkish Prime Minister (PM) Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday.

President Asif Zardari, who is also the chancellor of the university, will confer the degree upon PM Erdogan at an award ceremony at the Presidency. The decision to award the degree was taken during a joint meeting between the Presidency and the QAU at the Presidency on Friday.

“The honorary doctorate is being awarded to the Turkish prime minister in recognition of his role and contribution in the international politics,” said QAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Masoom Yasinzai. He said, as per tradition, the university’s entire Academic Council will be present on the occasion.

QAU conferred an honorary degree on the Turkish President Abdullah Gul some four years back and considered him as its alumni.

The VC added that top officials of the Technology Park of Middle East Technical University, one of the top Turkish universities will also accompany PM Erdogan and sign an agreement with the QAU. Under the agreement, Turkish Technology Park will assist the university in establishing a technology park at its campus and develop a consortium with other universities.
