NA speaker chairs security meeting for Turkish PM's address

IG police briefed Speaker on elaborate security arrangements made for Turkish premier’s visit.

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza chaired a meeting to discuss security arrangements for the Joint Session of Parliament for Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s address to be held on May 21 at the parliament house.

The meeting was attended by the Interior Ministry Secretary, Chairman Capital Devolpment Authority (CDA), Inspector General of Police (ICT) and other senior officers of concerned departments.

IG police briefed the speaker on the elaborate security arrangements which have been made keeping in view the importance of the Turkish premier’s visit.

While expressing satisfaction on the arrangements, Mirza directed for close liaison between all the departments since the visit carries special significance for Pakistan.

After a thorough discussion, it was decided that entry into the Parliament House would be through special passes issued by the National Assembly Secretariat and parking of vehicles would be in the designated parking lots for which red and green stickers would be issued.

It was further decided that a shuttle services would ply between parliament lodges and Parliament House for the convenience of parliament members.

It was also decided that no armed guards of the parliamentarians would be allowed in the precincts of the Parliament House on May 21.
