The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has decided to slash gas prices by over 10% starting July 1.
In separate decisions announced on Friday, Ogra reduced the gas price for consumers of Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGPL) by 10.37%, to Rs47.52 per million metric British thermal units (mmbtu), and by 7.95% to Rs34.34 per mmbtu for consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGC).
Concerns at expansion
Ogra expressed concern that both SNGPL and SSGC were undertaking new development projects under the directives of the federal government worth Rs12 billion and Rs2 billion, respectively.
It also lamented the lack of progress on liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline infrastructure, despite projects being approved in fiscal 2010-11. The cost of LNG should not be included in the cost of gas and the product may be directly supplied by the producers to the bulk end consumers, like the power and industrial sectors, Ogra added.

Its very unfair to criticize even the good steps...Remember OGRA is the regulatory authority and it has nothing to do with elections.....Gas is a commoditiy and is being sold at ridiculuosly low prices for so long...we want scarce resources for free which is unfortunate...
Elections are coming--PPPP is desperate. What about CNG prices?
Now our public will vote for these once again. After that they will cry. The cycle will go on forever. The societies in which collective thinking is scarce, they face problems like the ones we are facing now.
So the election, dirty politics have started. I hope the voters remember all the hardships in these 4 years and dont get hoodwinked.
An election stunt. Ultimately the people will be made to pay more than double, through their nose.
popular decision but with disastrous consequences for developing energy sector in commercial basis... keeping in mind election year.. very short term.. focus should be on increasing income levels rather than subsidizing gas like that
And in coming winters the increase will be approximately two times than the reduction for the month of july
Well done... very good
