PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs Department has ordered an inquiry into the death of an under-trail prisoner in Peshawar Central Jail.

A home department official, who requested not to be named, told The Express Tribune that Ziarat Gul, a resident of Tehkal Bala area of Peshawar, died in prison on May 8, 2011. Gul was in jail over theft charges.

His relatives held the jail administration responsible for the death. However, jail officials refuted the charges and claimed that Gul had died of epilepsy.

On the complaint of the relatives, Home and Tribal Affairs Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan ordered an inquiry into the incident on Friday and sought an investigation report at the earliest.
