KARACHI:

One track of the 72-foot wide Hub River Road was inaugurated by the governor of Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad, on Wednesday.

The road connects Sindh and Balochistan, and will be used by freight trucks with a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour. “This is an important corridor and there is a lot of traffic here,” said the governor.

“The rate of accidents will reduce considerably.” He added that the second phase of construction was expected to be completed next year. In his briefing, Karachi Municipal Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said that the highway had been in a rundown condition for 15 years and the traffic was routine. Initially, the tracks were 28-foot wide each and had increased to 36-foot with New Jersey barriers. The administrator said that there were a total of six u-turns on the road.
