Army win national taekwondo event

Bag 19 gold medals, clinch team titles too.

Pakistan Army clinched the National Taekwondo Championship with 19 gold medals with Wapda finishing second with five golds.


Army dominated the 14-team championship that saw them bag two silver medals as well. Railways ended in third position with a solitary gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

Army’s Mohammad Sajjad clinched the men’s national title in the heavyweight category defeating Wapda’s Nasir Shah while Shah Adil defeated Wapda’s Mubashir Nawaz to win the gold in the middle-weight event.

In the women’s event, Army’s Najia Hussain became the national heavyweight champion while Wapda Nusrat Mumtaz defeated Higher Education Commission’s Shehrish Akhtar to bag a silver.

Meanwhile, Army’s Irshad Ali defeated Railway’s Muhammad Yasir in the under-30 event while teammate Mehrun Nisa beat Railway’s Ume Kalsoom in the women’s event.

Army won both team titles, outplaying Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to lift the men’s title and beating Wapda to bag the women’s.
