As a precursor to Islamabad’s own jail, a feasibility study will be submitted to the Islamabad Chief Commissioner on Monday (today).
The report, prepared by the Capital development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Administration, analyses the feasibility of a temporary district jail within the premises of Tarnol Police Station.
An official familiar with the project said Chief Commissioner Tariq Mahmood Pirzada has directed CDA Project Director Ayaz Khan to visit the site of the under-construction Tarnol Police Station with the Adiala Jail Superintendent and work out the details. They had been asked to submit a project concept along with cost estimates by Monday.
The official said that necessary modifications in the Tarnol Police Station building are to be made according to the essential requirements of a jail. The commissioner had directed that the new building should include essential requirements and detailed security apparatus befitting a jail, he added.
According to the Adiala Jail superintendent, a jail requires construction of 18-20 feet high boundary walls, construction of a central tower, four tower check posts, prisoners’ barracks, electrified barbed wires around the boundary walls, construction of a mosque and health unit, construction of a visitors’ room and security equipment.
