KARACHI:

Parents should try to inculcate healthy eating habits and proper dental hygiene in their children, said experts at a seminar organised by Baqai Medical University’s department of community dentistry on Wednesday.

Doctors also mentioned some complications of the digestive system that may arise due to poor dental hygiene at the event, which took place at the Fehmi Health Education Centre.

“A disturbed digestive system can [adversely] affect gums, while poor dental hygiene can lead to indigestion,” said Dr Abbas Raza Abidi, a dental surgeon.

He urged mothers to try to prevent their children from developing a liking for fried food and carbonated drinks. Dr Asghar Ali Shigri advised parents to let their children know from the outset about the harmful effects of consuming gutka, main puri and other tobacco-laden products.
