Accompanying the verdict was a six-page long note by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa where after quoting poet Khalil Gibran’s Pity the Nation, he made his own 321-words addition to poem. Quoting Gibran kicked off a #PitytheNation trend, where the people of Pakistan shared their own woes about the state of the country.

I do not pity the nation, I hope for the nation !
There is so much on Pity the Nation on Facebook as well.. here is my bit:
Pity the Judiciary that expects respect and obedience But has different standards for PPP and PMLN and Pak Army ... Pity the Judiciary that takes sue moto notice of Waheeda Shah's slap But ignores the shoes thrown by lawyers on honourable judges of lower courts ... Pity the Judiciary that allows dictators to contest elections in Uniform But hangs an elected civilian for following the constitution ... Pity the judiciary that says nothing about presidential immunity But convicts the elected PM for following the consititution ... Pity the judiciary that loves the Sipah Salar But hates the elected representative of the people of Pakistan ... Pity the Judiciary that takes oath to respect and protect the constitution But has the gall to take another oath under PCO .... Pity the judiciary that sermonizes the nation about ethics But forgets to be ethical in its own actions ... Pity the Judiciary that claims to be representing the people of Pakistan But forgets to hear the cases of the very people who keep visiting courts for years and years .... Pity the Judiciary that writes poems But forgets to do what it is supposed to do - hear the cases .... Pity the Judiciary that is Unable to speak through its judgemtns But has the knack for sermonizing and lecturing the Nation... ... Pity the Judiciary that is less interested in administering justice And more interested in media attention
pity the nation where all the comments above are about provincialism and no one thinks as a nation... thats one of the major root cause of all our troubles
Pity the nation which has nuclear bomb bt nt da electercity.. Pity the nation where more than 40 pc ppl r living under povery line bt only 2.4 pc economic growth rate..
Pity the nation which has pity on itself. Only we can change our present state, pitying won't get us anywhere.
@EVERYONE
You people are talking about sind and panjab loadshedding. The province which produces the most electricity and the cheapest electricity is facing 18-22hours load shedding. Panjab does not give its "atta" (flour) to other provinces before they fulfill their own needs but KPK/NWFP gives electricity to all the country even while being deficient itself. Balochistan which produces the most natural gas doesn't get it while sind and panjab are enjoying it! Its all unfair....
Pity the nation which treats some different then others
twitter is so stupid.
Grow up,ET. Please!
Enough is enough. Pakistani newspaper never print anything positive about Pakistan.
I agree newspaper report news as it is, good or bad but i am convinced Pakistani newspapers only print bad things about Pakistan.
There are so many positive and good things about Pakistan which no one gets to read about.
As a foriegner (Indian) who is keen to know more about Pakistan, i find absolutely nothing interesting.
Pakistan is a proud nation which has many good things to show to the world - food, beautiful women, architecture ,etc but one gets to know nothing by reading the newspapers of Pakistan
Stop being so critical about Pakistan.
@Faraz:
Electricity is definitely not a problem in karachi atleast.We get only one hour loadshedding daily.KESC has definitely improved the delivery of electricity in karachi.It's much better than it was a few years ago.The only areas in karachi which suffer from higher hours of loadshedding are ones which are high loss areas for the KESC,that is areas in which there are more kundas,meter tampering and outright bill defaulters living.I've seen this and compared the different areas myself in karachi,the ones which have lower number of kundas and bill defaulters get lesser loadshedding while the ones where the kunda system and meter tampering are the most get more loadshedding in karachi.
Pity The Nation where people still support status quo parties..
@Jawed Khan: electricity is NOWHERE in Pakistan, come out of this province-bias ..Punjab or Sindh....we are ALL TOGETHER in this, at least.
Jawed and Saad, So you guys think that Govt. cares for the people who vote for them? Haha No. Actually I know many areas in Sindh which are a big vote bank of PPP yet they suffer 10-15 and sometimes 20 hours of load shedding a day. Its just that this govt is insane and bayhis.
@Aley you are right - not only the selection of tweets is always biased - the selection of trend is also biased - ET chose not to share trends such as SupportBaloch and StopOperatioinLyari and BlamethePresident etc etc.
@Jawed Khan:
Punjab is being punished because it didn't vote for the ppp.that's why punjab's industries have had their gas and electricity supplies cut off over the last 4 years and this racist hate towards punjab is the reason why punjab suffers over 4 times the amount of loadshedding karachi suffers.the message from the ruling party has been clear,vote for us or you'll have to pay a very,very heavy price.
Pity the nation where inequalities in loadshedding are promoted.Cities in punjab get 18 hours daily loadshedding whereas karachi gets only 4,5 hours of loadshedding a day.In the winter punjab's gas supply was also cut off by the federal government.This persecution of punjab by the federal govt. has reduced punjab to a state deserving great pity.
Why so selective ET...why dont you post the relevant Pity the Nation? Which call in to question the bias and unruly so called Azad Adliya? Pity the ET for unfair coverage
