LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday turned down a plea filed by some DSPs, seeking promotion, to issue an injunctive order against the promotion board meeting to decide their cases. The chief justice was hearing a contempt petition against the inspector general of police (IGP) moved by the DSPs who say they have been denied a promotion to the rank of SP. When proceedings started, a law officer submitted, on behalf of the IGP, that pursuant to court’s orders a meeting of the promotion board has been convened. Eligible DSPs, said the officer, would be promoted. At this point, the counsel for the petitioners objected to the convening of the board and requested that the court issue a stay order. The case was adjourned till May 10.
