ABBOTABAD:

The 17-year-old girl who fell from the third floor of a building died of injuries at the Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) on Wednesday.

Hina Bashir was operated open when she was brought to the hospital with multiple skull, arm, leg and spinal cord fractures on April 27, a source in the intensive care unit of AMC told The Express Tribune. However, she slipped into a coma and died of injuries around 6am on Wednesday.

According to the FIR lodged with the Mirpur police, Hina was a student of International Public School and had left home for Havelian to take an exam.

The police arrested two suspects after tracing her phone records and also recovered some of her belongings from the building: an earring from the second floor, and a broken cell phone and silver bangle from the first floor. The police said the girl was carrying a Rs50 note in her right hand when she fell.

The police believe that the girl was pushed while resisting sexual assault and the investigating team said they have found “vital evidence” to support their position. However, the medical officer ruled out the possibility of a sexual assault, saying that there were no marks to support the theory.

“We are interrogating the two suspects in the case and the principal accused will also be arrested soon,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, Hina’s sister, Nasreen, has accused the hospital management of negligence, saying that there was no doctor on duty on Tuesday night and the ward was facing a shortage of oxygen.

The hospital management has rejected the allegation, maintaining that the girl died of skull injuries.
