Defence secy issued notice in contempt plea

Former airport security officer says apex court’s order not followed.

The Lahore High Court issued a notice to the Defence Secretary on Friday and the director general of the Airport Security Force (ASF) to reply in a contempt of court petition for allegedly not complying with orders of the Supreme Court (SC).


A single bench of the LHC put off the hearing till May 25. Petitioner Chaudhry Sikander Ali, a former security officer at the ASF, submitted that despite the SC’s order to the respondents to reinstate him, they were not letting him join. He said this was tantamount to contempt of court. The petitioner prayed the court for direction to the respondents to reinstate him.

The petitioner submitted that he was serving as a security officer and while on leave, he was retired compulsorily on December 10, 2001.

He said he had challenged his retirement before the Lahore High Court and then the SC.

A two-judge bench of the SC comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Amir Hani Muslim and accepted his petition on March 07, 2012, and ordered his reinstatement.

He said on March 30 he had presented the respondents with a certified copy of the SC order for its implementation but they did not fulfill their legal obligations.

He prayed the court to issue directions to the respondents to let him re-join the force.
