Lyari violence: Nabil Gabol escapes attack
The police had denied the incident, but Gabol confirmed to the media that his car was attacked with a hand grenade.
Earlier, three people including two policemen were killed and 10 others were injured whereas forces arrested 20 suspects during a targeted operation in Lyari.
Unidentified men also threw hand grenades and fired rockets at police forces during the operation, injuring policemen and civilians.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chaudhry Aslam Khan, along with a heavy contingent of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) entered Lyari at 5am.
By the time it reached Cheel Chawk, the contingent had been attacked by six rockets and one hand grenade, injuring a police official named Waqas.
Police set up posts at Cheel Chawk whereas criminals atop high rises continued incessant firing using latest weapons.
“People opened fire at the police, threw hand grenades and rocket launchers when the operation started… But the situation is now under control,” Khan told Express News.
The area resounded with the sound of blasts and firing. Businesses and shops remained closed, transport was nowhere to be seen. Residents of the area remained indoors.
According to sources, the operation was being conducted in search of around 30 wanted criminals including Baba Ladla, a criminal with a bounty of Rs2 million on his head.
Earlier, on Thursday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Lyari worker and Sindh Council member Malik Mohammed Khan was killed by unidentified men.

Its foreign game part trying 2 destablise Pakistan. These Gangs hav modern weapons provided by anti state elements ie. US, jews n indians who r trying 2 exploit political situation in Karachi. The people of Pakistan are blind that they only see 1 side of story shown by our media which is funded by foreign anti state elements but they dnt realize the real aims of the foreign culprits who r playing da divide & rule policy. Why is no operation taking placing against the biggest criminal and terrorist organization in Karachi? In fact why isn't this party being banned, it is after all an enemy of Pakistan.

Well, thats what happens when you want to cleanse out the crminals you created in past. They start haunting you in revenge. Where is Bilawal by the way? Father is trying to make the area safr before his son has to go there for getiing the votes he inherited? Good strategy. Hope the public does nt stay so forgiving to him anymore.
Lyari is one of the strong hold areas where all sort of crimes takes place.
The criminals have not only taken shelter in the Lyari area but have also huge quantity of cache of modern and sophisticated all sort of weapons which have been spread all over Karachi and are used for target killings.
The law enforcing agencies has to deal the Lyari case with iron hands.
If the area is cleared from criminals and gangsters, I am confident that peace loving people in Lyari will get relieved from the bad guys.

"It's not the political parties but criminal gangs". The Peoples Amn Committee, which is known to be an integral supporter of these criminal elements, is a PPP unit. Many of these gangs are also PPP supporters. To say that all this violence has no political support is ridiculous. Agree with your comment about the other political parties too.

Pakistan is burning; from Gilgit to Quetta, from Lahore to Turbat and from Waziristan to Lyari while our Neros (Samjhota Express partners) are busy playing their Lyres. :(
Lyari is strangled with Drug and crime mafia who use the local residents as a human shield. It is not an ethnic issue by any means.This is a fight between crime gangs and Law enforcement agency. These gangs have become so daring that they use hand granades and rocket launchers against police. These people in the past have been tolerated and even supported by some powerfull elements because of their connections. Karach can not see peace unless they are crushed and dealt with full force.
