Snooker: Asif wins tense encounter in Doha

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif and Sultan Mohammad experienced mixed fortunes on the fifth day of the 10th Asian Snooker Championship in Doha after which their chances of going through to the next round were left hanging.

While Sultan suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to India’s Pankaj Advani, Asif beat Kuwait’s Mubarak Alowais 4-3 in a tense encounter. Sultan’s loss was his second in four matches while Asif recorded his third win after five contests and increased his chances of going through to the next round.

“Both cueists are now dependent on the results of other games.” manager Munawwar Sheikh told The Express Tribune. “They can only go through if the top cueists in their respective groups lose their matches.”
