Video Statement: Court adjourns hearing on Haqqani’s plea

Asma Jehangir says Haqqani had been directed to record his statement in person.

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court on Monday deferred hearing until Tuesday of a plea filed by former ambassador Husain Haqqani seeking its direction for the judicial commission investigating the Memogate scandal to record his statement via video link.

A 10-memebr bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, adjourned the hearing after Haqqani’s attorney Asma Jehangir requested to place certain documents on record.

She said that her client had been directed to record his statement in person. Haqqani is neither an accused nor has an FIR registered against him, but the commission has still not allowed video link, assuming that the apex court prohibited him from recording his statement from abroad, Asma said.

Saleem | 11 years ago | Reply Hussain Haqqan is very right that commission can give its verdict without his statements because he is well aware the fact that commission in any case does not want to spare him. It is very unfortunate that courts are working as a B-team of an institution. All the verdicts are being dictated to them, they can never be impartial. To settle personal scores, the use of supreme institution of Pakistan is totally absurd. When Mansoor Ijaz refused to come to Pakistan for recording his statement despite giving time frame and even counsel of Mansoor Ijaz said that he will not ask for any deadline if his client fails to appear before commission and he failed to produce his clients, it was the end of this case yet commission, following instructions went to London for Mansoor Ijaz and recorded his statement, how hilarious but when Hussain Haqqani pleaded for the same procedure, and deserved because he was ill, court blew hot and cold. What a level of duplicity?

Why so much fuss over a piece of unsigned paper without concrete evidence? It seems that our judiciary is so free that it has nothing to do except meddling in the national affairs. The most hilarious thing which I perceived is that Mansoor Ijaz has no moral grounds even in USA and no one is ready to believe what he says or do but our judiciary presented him as a hero, who is even not a villain in real. Check out his level of propaganda against Pakistan’s national interest. Mansoor Ijaz said that even though he had written an article alleging Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan of stealing nuclear secrets, he was not inherently against Pakistan’s nuclear program.” Good news, he is not against Pakistan, army, ISI, Govt, or nuclear program, he only writes against it and spits venom about it on TV. He is confessing to be related to two dozen foreign agencies, yet our SC and HC would go to any length to authenticate his statements. How many judges of high judiciary are chasing and fooled by this infamous agent?
