In memory: Sindh Assembly session adjourned

KARACHI: The first day of the Sindh Assembly’s session for the fifth parliamentary year wrapped up within an hour out of respect for Sindh minister and PPP stalwart Abdul Salam Thaheem, who died on Sunday. Speaker Nisar Khuhro reminded legislators that it is customary for the Sindh Assembly session to be adjourned if a sitting member of the assembly dies. Khuhro said that Thaheem was an example in how to be loyal to a party and work for a cause in testing times. Legislators paid tribute to their late colleague and also asked for prayers to be offered for the victims of the Bhoja Air plane crash, the soldiers trapped in an avalanche in Siachen as well as for Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairperson Bashir Khan Qureshi and musician Master Manzoor, who also died on Sunday. Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA and Sindh Religious Affairs Minister Abdul Haseeb spoke of a recent religious pilgrimage and the need for legislators to spend time offering prayers of repentance and for the country’s stability. The Sindh Assembly will meet at 9:30am on Tuesday, which is also private members’ day.
