5th Pakistan Telecon summit to bring specialists together

Conference aims to create awareness, invite foreign investment in sector.

KARACHI: The 5th Pakistan TeleCON is scheduled to take place here on April 19, 2012, at a local hotel. The telecommunication conference has been organised by Shamrock Communications and will bring together a large number of industry specialists from the public and private sectors.

Prominent names such as Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment Saleem H Mandviwalla, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Dr Mohammad Yaseen, Comptel UAE Middle East & Africa Vice President Syed Veqar ul Islam, Schneider APC Pakistan & Afghanistan VP IT Business Munib Khawaja and Dubai Islamic Bank Country Head Corporate and Investment Banking Masood Karim will be among the participants.

Participants will share their knowledge and experiences to help create fresh perspectives for adopting best-practices and pave the way for increasing foreign direct investment in the sector. According to the organiser, the telecommunications conference has been organised with a special emphasis on ‘riding the new wave of technology and consolidation’, with the aim to review and plan a comprehensive development program.

The conference has been divided into an inaugural session and four other sessions that will be themed around: ‘Regulatory–Technology and Economic Challenges’; ‘ICT – Mobile Applications: Growth, Utilisation and Next Steps’; ‘Maximising on the Power of 3G Technology for Economic Activity’; and a panel discussion on the ‘Technology Aided Communication Boon’.

The conference aims to contribute to the continuing success of the fast-growing telecommunication sector in Pakistan and create awareness on challenges and opportunities. The organisers also wish to encourage industry specialists to share models of corporate communication and social responsibility practices. The conference also aims to encourage international cooperation, regional initiatives and partnerships, and provide an overview of experiences, policy and regulatory issues, and developments in telecommunications market liberalisation.

The organisers hope that the conference will be able to convey investor-friendly opportunities in Pakistan’s business environment to regional and global investors, and place and strengthen Pakistan’s position on the global telecommunication map as one of the fastest growing markets.
