MANSEHRA: A house in Shakol village was completely gutted on Friday night. The fire was reportedly  caused by a short-circuit.

The police quoted Roshan Khan as saying that he had been living in an eight-room house with his two brothers for several years.

At around 11:30pm on Friday, when all the family members were attending a dinner at a neighbouring house, a fire broke out in the kitchen.

Since they could not put out the fire, it quickly engulfed all eight rooms of the house.

The fire also consumed Rs20,000 in cash, 125 grammes of jewellery and all the possessions of his newly-married brother.

Villagers unsuccessfully tried to douse the fire, he said, but it was too late to save the house which was burned down.

The complainant estimated the total loss at Rs600,000.
