ISLAMABAD:

As the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeks to finalise electoral rolls, it has decided to issue a new schedule for by-elections in PP-243 Dera Ghazi Khan IV and PP-245 Dera Ghazi Khan VI constituencies.

However, polling will still be held on May 7 as had previously been announced by ECP.

As the Supreme Court (SC) heard the case regarding preparation of new electoral rolls by the ECP on Monday, the commission held a meeting presided over by acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Shakirullah Jan.

During the meeting, the CEC reviewed the overall progress in preparation of upgraded electoral rolls, directing commission members to ensure delivery of credible and error-free electoral rolls at the earliest.

He also expressed satisfaction over ECP’s preparations for holding by-elections in the Dera Ghazi Khan constituencies on the basis of the new electoral rolls, prepared according to Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
