Judo: FATA women to make national debut

KARACHI: Fata women will take part in the National Women Judo Championship for the first time when the event kicks-off in Islamabad today where 78 athletes from 18 teams will take part in five different events. According to the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Secretary Masood Ahmed, Pakistan Army is collaborating with them to organise the championship and the federation’s priority was to provide good facilities and security to the female athletes. “It is a big deal that Fata women are participating, it shows that times are changing,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “In fact thanks to Army’s collaboration we were able to satisfy athletes’ parents. Last year we only had 16 teams so increase in the number of participants is a positive sign.”
