Delegation: Govt Murray College to get university status

SIALKOT: The Government Murray College will soon be granted a degree awarding status. This was announced by Principal Prof Javaid Akhtar Billah on Wednesday.

He was addressing a twenty-member delegation of senior CSP officers from across the country who visited the college on Wednesday. The principal said that the administration was making efforts to make the college a centre of excellence.

He said the college was short of classroom and urged the Punjab government to establish a new campus for the college after it was awarded a university status.

“The campus should be established at the outskirts of Sialkot,” he suggested, quoting the example of the Government College University’s campus located in the outskirts of Lahore. Journalist Hafiz Ashfaq Niazm author of History of Sialkot also addressed the delegates. The 123 years old institution is the alma mater of Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The delegates later took a round of the college.
