According to the protesters, Muhajirs were not being given their rights and now had no choice but to ask for a separate province for themselves.
The protest included a telephonic address by the chairman of the Muhajir Province Movement.

In punjab Khar and khosa ( saraki) and shahbaz and nawaz sharif (Muhajir ) can become CM. In KP Abbasi and Shah ( Hindko) and Mufti Mahmood (DI Khan) can become CM. In Sindh it is impossible for a Urban Sindhi ( or so called MUHAJIR) to become CM. Proportion of saraikis in Punjab and hindkowal in KP is lower than the proportion of Muhajirs in Sindh.
There is no discrimination of Urban/Rural (Muhajir/Sindhi) in other provinces as in Sindh. So demand for separate Muhajir province is much stronger than Saraiki and hazarewal province
As I read this thread, EVERY poster has some validity to their case. All the more reason to respect the perspectives of others and not be hostage to our own thinking. The people posting here seem to be very educated. It is upon you people to be exemplary and to see the pain and feelings of the other. Otherwise we will be no different than the thugs beloging to various parties killing each other and innocent people.
Respectfully.
@Wasio Abbasi I totally agreed as a pathan ..
@Ash: Very valid points Ash. Given only Jageerdari system, women oppression etc etc. Pray tell me, what were Urdu speaking before the partition? If you mean to say Urdu speaking were never Jageerdars in areas from where they migrated and they never oppressed women then kindly tell me where did the land left by Sindhi Hindus go? Why, in 1956, law was passed that all land left by migrating Hindus will be allocated to migrants and no peasant or local will be eligible for the allotment? Moreover, kindly correct your knowledge. The most blood that was shed was by Punjabis and not Urdu Speaking and they formed the majority of migrants. Secondly, it was Sindh's assembly that passed the first resolution in support of Pakistan despite the fact that no one in the Muslim League was in support of Pakistan's idea, at least not until 1946 when Lahore Resolution was renamed as Pakistan Resolution on the failure of Cabinet Mission plan. As for literacy rate, please spare me the insult. Karachi was declared Capital of Pakistan, no local was allowed to purchase any property or own any shop in the city and every thing was allotted to migrants. The crown jewel of Sindh was handed to migrants on silver platter that gave them complete dominance over the most educated city, the most clean city of Asia, the most vibrant city, the most business-oriented city and crossroads to every business and industry for the whole country. And lastly, stop this "Lashon ki siyasat" by bringing deaths of the partition because you are belittling the efforts of your ancestors by playing on their sacrifices in order to use them for emotional blackmailing. It won't affect us and no one gives a hoot, it will only belittle your ancestors and what they did for the country. If you want an argument based on facts, I'll give you a run for your money but if you want to emotional blackmail, continue trolling the internet and waste your life away.
@ Sindh Voice, There are thousands of families of Urdu speaking people living in interior Sindh, they live and speak Sindhi in their daily life, because of the atmosphere there, in Karachi not even ethnic Sindhi use Sindhi how can you expect others to speak ?? 20 % of Karachi population is ethnic Punjabi they also use Urdu, why singling out the Urdu speaking people?? I learnt Sindhi during my schooling and at one time I started enjoying speaking it, but now I forgot, why >?? because theres no use in KArachi for it, I cant communicate with my familly in Sindhi or with my Punjabi, Pukhtun and other urdu speaking friends. We did not reject the Sindhi Language and culture, Nowhere in the world an Urban settlement the preservation center of any culture, We have even forgotten our own culture because of that. And Karachi is one of the biggest urban settlement of the world, so stop this cultural blame game of yours.
The blood that moves an industry is fossil fuel. The secret of Karachi's economy is its presence in Sindh, which is the major resource-produer of natural gas(73% of total). Resource-poor provinces have to stand in line for their turn. Heck, they even have to line up twice a week in Punjab for CNG. Just look at Faisalabad's misery. Then look at the man in the mirror. My two bits.
I stand with Sindhis to help maintain and protect their culture, language and heritage. Urdu should not be imposed on anyone.
I stand with Muhajris on more equitable representation in Karachi governance, police etc.
Can we not work together? even take up the other side's grievances?
Can the leaders of MQM and PPP not come together at the Nash Equilibrium?
regards.
And the mouth starts to foam....
@VoK: why he is not addressing Britons on phone or by person, but he does in Sindh, if he is so welcomed in Britain. if he is so happy in uk then why he still WANT Sindh. Why he does not declare his source of income in the UK. Please enlighten the people.
@Ash: You don;t need a province to celebrate being Indian- why not just listen to Altaf Hussain who said that Muhajirs shouldn't have left India? After all then the Sindis would be happy and you too would be happy among your own kind in India? Think about the statements you make. If you dislike native Pakistanis so much, why do you live in Pakistan. You can surround yourself by Hindustanis 24 /7 just by taking the train back to your home in India.
@Ash: like there is peace in the most peaceful city on the earth before partition or before migrants came to karachi. Other thing that migrants is not and will not have any country or the place of belonging. they have to go their original place of living where they belong to if they dont integrate to mainstream population.
@Salman Orangiwala: There was a quota at the time of partition for migrants and unique law in the world that no any permanent resident of Sindh can buy the property left by the Sindhi Hindus and was given on false claims to the migrants. Would you like to tell your migrants to return those properties to the owners or the local people. You sound to have no knowledge but slogans to support your argument respectably.
@Jahanzaib Qazi: you only can dream for muhajir sooba, but nothing is a precedent in the world. mr ishrat-ul-ibad is governer of Sindh for last 12 years. the urdu speaking people have all institutions from education to health care and industries. all of them belong to the Land of Sindh. these were not brought by urdu speaking community from india. I am not addressing those urdu speaking brothers who separate themselves from the mental conditions of dividing. However, there is no any place in the world which can be recognized as Muhajir country. Every where immigrants have to integrate with the main stream population. Every country prefers to their population to be hired in public and private jobs then after a thorough examination people are hired for the job if they fit for that. IT IS MUST FOR THEM TO KNOW THE LANGUAGE OF THE COUNTRY WHERE THEY HAVE TO WORK. How many urdu speaking people speak Sindhi as they are employed for the jobs. Karachi is not build by urdu migrants but has destroyed the clean and beautiful city in Asia.
@salman orangi walla I am karachiet too by birth right and i think i have a right to say some thing in matter too bro in pakistan there is injustice with every community so please stop saying only Muhajirs are victims and by the way muhajirs are lucky peoples they lives karachi city and owns lot of busnisses and office jobs.... but dont stop crying this milli naghma since 1970 like jews of israel do they killed and occupys palestines but still are innocent because Hitler killed them and he was not muslim either. funny world,
@ SK Salman ..........Bro , Seemaji appeciates your ( submissive? ) gesture . lolzzzzzzzzzz. Its time to check the sincerety ...... Lets start with .........................
.......her view point on the Urban Rural Quota , ask her why their had never been a Muhajir Chief Minister in Sindh or for that matter even from Karachi ? Would you further dare to ask her why 90% of the SHOs of Karachi are Sindhis ( go check your local police station to find unknown accent with unknown faces , more interested in "monthlys" than curbing cell phone snatching & crimes ), why all the Govt Hospitals , Sindh Seretariat et alare infested with Sindhis ..... Go start with these appetizers , me not asking for the main courses yet ,.............Well............................?????
If she appeases you fine .......else change your aparture and join the bandwagon .
@Salan Orangiwala
100% agree with you brother. Just see when a Urdu Speaking was head of state (Musharraf era) it was much better. Mustafa Kamal, another urdu speaking, when he was Mayor of Karachi he changed the map of it. When these people were made head of affairs, they looted and brought it to dust..PIA, Steel Mill, Railways ..you name it!
We just need another province so we can run the province like we were doing during Musharraf era. At the moment we are hand cuffed . we can't do anything in our own areas!
@SK - Salman: I appreciate and respect your sentiments.
@ Moderator No Fair my dear Sir . My last phrase was censored .Highly unfair If some insane nationalist can threaten me , dya really think i would go for the bangles ? .At least let them be informed who or what they have to deal with in the very very near future . I strongly protest your way of moderating my dear Sir .
@Jhingalala: No country want to be a federation with Pakistan unless the religious mindset of the people change and should express that all religions are same.
From couples of weeks, MQM was say they are not interested in separate province. Actually they were pretending, from heart they want separate province. Ridiculous they are trying to make people FOOL.
@Ash: @Sindhvoice: @Salman Orangiwala: This argument is never ending and only serves to repeatedly fight each other. Historical facts have something else to tell, however. It is better to read what prominent historians like K.K.Aziz, Ayesha Jalal and Taimoor Rehman have to say about partition and its aftereffects. I had written thing short blog that answers some of these issues that have been raised repeatedly, over and over again. http://wasioabbasi.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/chronicles-of-pakistan-the-urdu-controversy/
Telephonic address by the Chairman. hmmm interesting. Could you please enlighten us by naming the chairman
Thus began the journey of division of Sind
@Maulana Tharra: Maybe cuz he was accepted by the crown and not the people of sindh?
Why don't self proclaimed "muhajirs" follow Altaf "bhai's" lead? He renounced "muhajirship" long time ago and see how happy he is!!
As expected, Ram Dhan is inciting ethnic animosity amongst pakistanis. how does his and other indians comment get thru moderation?
A new province would be like placing a band-aid on a cancer. The root cause of the cancer is not a lack of provinces but poor governance at all levels of Pakistan.
My dear sindhi brothers welcomed a massive, traumatized population to their new motherland with big open hearts.
My dear urdu-speaking brothers left homes, wealth for their principles and beliefs and help develop Karachi into a port-city.
My dear pushtun brothers helped build this city with commerce and back breaking labor.
Thanks to our politicians, we forget each other's sacrifices and contributions and our love and respect for each other. It is only when we think of the other as pakistanis that we will move forward with all the blessings available to us.
Any guess what would Altaf "bhai" pick if he is forced to choose between "Mahjirship" and UK Citizenship?
@Ram Dhan: It is again a conspiracy to make Hindu Sindhis victim. Whole Sindhi community including nationalists, academicians, intellectuals, students, Sindhi print and electronic media condemned that shameful event and they supported Rinkal Kumari. Sindhi Hindus and Muslims have same roots and same love for land. Such actions were not done by any ordinary Sindhi, while some religious zealots from ruling party were involved, but whole Sindhi nation stood by Rinkle Kumari, not Mian Mithho. We are well aware that in the name of religion and patriotism, our land is made strangers to us and now even those people who were once given shelter and better life, are conspiring against our land. When authority over our land will not be in our hands, some black sheep in ruling government can exploit the situation to the disadvantage of Sindh. Unity is strength!
Lets not talk of the moneylenders, gents. All of Karachi (yours truly included; plus many of ET staffers I believe) get that dreaded call from one bank or another at the begining of every month !!!
@Sindhvoice: Why are driving your Sindhi Hindu brothers and sisters to India by killing them, kidnapping them, converting their daughters to Islam, etc.? That means more Muhajirs in interior Sindh. And then the whole Sindh will banega Muhajiristan just like Karachi.
Mian Mithoo Zindabad
The only way to end this Mohajir Sooba campaign is to eliminate Urban Rural Quota and in next term made an Urdu Speaking person Chief Minister of Sindh no problem if he is from PPP these are the two things that PPP and Sindhi Nationalists do to avert any attempt of Mohajir Sooba
Nobody will care for any soobas once the Wadera system is changed, and everyone gets equal opportunities. That's my two cents' view.
Note: Above message was in response to @Salman Orangiwala:
You said " Your ancestors didnot welcome anybody , it was in their vested interest to kick-out the Hindu maoney lenders to grab their lands and belongings. Me: Check the records, with all fake and false claims, most of refugees occupied the belongings of our Hindu Sindhi brothers. You: still you are doing the same ( Now forcing them to convert , pity ) ." Me: It is condemn-able act, whole Sindhi community has denounced it. Nationalist and progressive forces have done strikes on this issue. Moreover, kindly read some books, during partition, if there was any Hindu-Muslim divide in Sindh, then why not people killed each other, as was the case in Punjab? I agree that it was GRAVE mistake of our ancestors to prefer you (Muslims from India) over their fellow Hindu Sindhis. See, what we get today..you are conspiring against our land. You:Guess what ?????? me and kind are in the majority and the number is rising rapidly .MQM or no MQM , we will go for it . We are a different breed . Trust me . Me: If some one insists on doing suicide, he should be sent to mental ward. SIndh knows very well, how to handle such breed.
@Salman Orangiwala: If some one insists on taking the path of madness filled with hate, arrogance, insolence and violence, only one can pray for people like you to grow up and have some sanity. If people like you continue to conspire against Sindh and Sindhi people in the garb of Mohajir Soba by ignoring our prior humble requests of sanity then mark my words, they WILL be responsible for CONSEQUENCES. We are peaceful people but we know how to defend our motherland. We are ready to take on this challenge to correct the mistakes of our ancestors if you people dont leave the path of division, hate and arrogance. I again wish sanity prevail.
@Sindh voice , Your ancestors didnot welcome anybody , it was in their vested interest to kick-out the Hindu maoney lenders to grab their lands and belongings and still you are doing the same ( Now forcing them to convert , pity ) .
SK Slaman and company donot have an issue to live as a 2nd class citizen , cowed down by the quotafied , ruled by incompetent Sindhi bureaucrats ruled by these quota-generated thug polices ...............................> Weaklings donot stand up against tyranny .
Guess what ?????? me and kind are in the majority and the number is rising rapidly .MQM or no MQM , we will go for it . We are a different breed . Trust me .
Why they hell we have divided ourself so much??? PLZ LISTEN TO WHAT QUAID-E-AZAM said http://bit.ly/HakC1e
@SK - Salman: Brother, people like you are our hope. I wish more people like you come up to avert this conspiracy, which is "to divide and rule". Some forces want to create un-ending gulf between Sindhis and Mohajirs by using slogan of Mohajir province. We request to all sane and peaceful Urdu speaking population with all humility and sincerity that pls don't fall prey to this conspiracy, it is trap. As brothers, come ahead and stand by with us to expose those elements who want to divide us and our land.
In 1947, our innocent ancestors NEVER thought for once that whom are they actually welcoming in their land. They thought, those brothers of Islam will live with us as brothers with peace but unfortunately some of those immigrants consider themselves as conquerors of Sindh. Their attitude towards Sindhi language, land and people is unfriendly. They dont own Sindh and dont like to integrate in very land which provided them shelter and better life. Where in Partition document, it is written that Sindh has to bear all such loads of immigrants? Sindh opted to be part of this federation through democratic process, it was NOT colonized land. Thus, our land should NOT be treated as piece of cake to let any Tom, Dick and Harry to divide it. We are peaceful people, we want our Urdu speaking brothers to live with us as brothers but if they conspire to divide motherland, that will create un-ending crisis with disastrous results.
@Umar, Thats probably because of two reasons, 1- Most of the migrants were from eastern Punjab, so they had no problem integrating. 2- They werent alienated by the host population.
Migrants in Karachi were from all over India, even from former same province(Gujratis; they and Sindhi have been historically part of same province). Before the riegn of Bhutto nobody identified himself as Muhajir, they Identified themselves by their original ethnicity with no hatred intended to others, eg, Behari, Memons, Gujratis, UPs, Pakhton, Pujabi Sindhis etc. But the way Bhutto alienated the population of Karachi by imposing Qouta system (there were no private jobs back then , those which were pvt were nationalised by Bhutto), Punjabis in Karachi got their domicile from Punjab, Sindhis from interior, Pukhtoon fron KP, which left the majority of the city population very well educated and jobless, because of their geographic position. The only element they had in Common was being resident of Urban Sind and Decendants of Migrants (muhajir), they had to unite to fight this injustice. Thats the background on which MQM was born. you expect to corner and torture a cast and not fight back??
@Salman Orangiwala: Lot higher number of Mohajirs moved to Punjab, 5.5 m versus 1.5 m to Sindh. No one calls themselves Mohajirs anymore in Punjab (new generation born in Pakistan). Mohajir word is kept alive and used in Karachi for political purpose only. I am all for smaller provinces for administrative purpose. Would also llike to mention that due to fast changing demographics of Karachi if it becomes a province we can quite possibly see a Pashto speaking Chief minister in a decade or so.
@aftab afridi: "Why aren’t news channels doing any talkshows on the muhajir sooba movement?" Because, as I stated above, there is no such "movement" in Karachi. The most prominent political party in Karachi, MQM, has disavowed demand for a separate province. Secondly, there is a reason for provinces in other places: in Punjab the population is over 60 percent of Pakistan, and for administrative reasons it is too cumbersome, and needs to divided. In KPK, the demand of the Pakhtoon population for naming the province after Pakhtoons was not shared by the Hindko speaking community and now they are demanding their own separate identity. In Balochistan and in Sindh there is no demand for carving out separate provinces, so what is the need of asking the question you have asked?????
Why aren't news channels doing any talkshows on the muhajir sooba movement? they did hundreds of shows on the hazara and saraiki sooba campaigns but no channel has done any show on the muhajir sooba movement. Why are the anchors deliberately ignoring this?
@SK - Salman:
Well-said sir!... we need to stay united against such characters who are inciting violence to further their own political agenda. I am a Mohajir and I DONT want a separate province. I am more then happy with living with my sindhi, punjabi, pathan and balochi brethren.
Peace.
Why hasn't the leader of the muhajir sooba movement been named? if he addressed his supporters then he should have been named in this piece. The news channels also are not mentioning his much about this muhajir sooba movement, they are only showing the rally for a new muhajir province.
There is an urabn-rural unique in the world quota system in Sindh ,depriving the Muhajirs Govt Jobs , Admissions .There ahs never been a Muhajir Chief Minister , all Karachi gets is an Unknow Wazir-e-Aala fro Kahirpur or Jacobabad who even doesnot know the inner city Karachi .
The Police of Karachi consists of Punjabis and Sindhis all posted on political ground , same goes for FIA ,CIA , Army ,Rangers and other LEAs ,
Karachi generates 70% revenue and feeds the rest of the country , but in reutrn what do we get ?
If there can be a province in punjab or KP , why not Karachi .
Express Tribune is trying to indulge in Yellow Journalism by giving headlines such as this. To give this news and portray Mohajirs as a monolithic community is a gross distortion of facts. How many people belong to this organization: 12, 120, 1200, or 12,000??? I believe not even 12. Mohajirs belong to many schools of thoughts and political affiliations. A considerable number in Orangi are PPP sympathisers. Afaq Shahid Khan was their MNA for a number of years until he passed away, I believe a year ago. A considerable number of Mohajirs belong to Jamaat e Islami. A large portion of Mohajirs vote for MQM, because of their administrative capabilities and their "can do" attitude. But, by no stretch of imagination, Mohajirs demand a separate province. A separate province for what purpose???? So that one single party will establish their dictatorial rule???? No, we are better off with our Sindhi brothers and with all the ethnicities that have migrated to Karachi and call the City their home. Please try to report responsibly. You are not serving anyone's interest by giving sensational and untrue news.
How many partitions does the this wretched piece of land called South Asia will have to go through. The best solution is for all units to fedrate (India, Pak, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Myanmar) to and one form Akhand Dakshin Asia (ADA)
I want my own province too! I am a Pakistani (not a mohajir) and I am also not given my rights since 1947.
