The family of a woman who died from burn injuries she suffered allegedly in a suicide attempt three days ago has accused her in-laws of the murder.
Aman Ullah, brother of Naseem Bibi, a resident of Jhanda Pir, filed a complaint with Batala Colony police on Monday, seeking prosecution of her husband and his parents for murder. He rejected Bibi’s in-laws’ claim that she was burned in a suicide attempt. He said her husband Maqbool Ahmed had burned her. He said the suspect had also burned himself to deceive the police. Shakeel Ahmad, duty officer at Batala Colony police station, told The Express Tribune that an FIR would be registered once the report of the post mortem examination as well as evidence from the crime scene were available.
The deceased as well as her husband, Maqbool Ahmed, were hospitalised with burns injuries three days ago. Doctors who treated them said the woman had had burns to more than 70 per cent of her body. They said her husband, whose injuries were not as serious, was now ‘out of danger’.
Naseem Bibi’s in-laws said she had attempted suicide following an argument with her husband. They said the woman had set herself on fire after dousing herself with kerosene oil. They said Ahmed was burned in trying to put out the fire.
