Tribune to folk singer: Presidential award sought

The ceremony was organised jointly by Radio Pakistan and the Cholistan Development Council of Pakistan

BAHAWALPUR: Speakers at a musical performance held on Friday in memory of late folk singer, Nasim Akhter, appealed the government to honour her services to folk music by awarding her with Presidential Pride of Performance. The ceremony was organised jointly by Radio Pakistan and the Cholistan Development Council of Pakistan. Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur station director Sajid Hassan Durrani; Bahawalpur Museum director Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Madni and PBC programme manger Tariq Shah were present at the occasion. They said Akhter who had started her career in 1972 was a contemporary of singers like Iqbal Bano and Surriya Multanikar. They said the artist performed several songs that were popular to date. Folk singers Jasmil Parwana, Naseer Mastana, Mohan Baghat, Sonum Khan and Shamaila Shaikh presented folk songs at the ceremony.
