Earlier, two other children had died due to lack of health facilities at NICH including a nine year old boy and a one year old girl.
According to sources, there are more than 200 children admitted at the NICH hospital, 150 of them in critical condition, who are not getting proper health care because of the absence of nurses who are boycotting their duties to demand time-scale promotions from the government.
At NICH, between five to 10 children die daily and the child who died today was in a poor health condition.
All work has halted in the OPDs and wards of government run hospitals including Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital and NICH.
The relatives of the deceased said that the government is not taking any action to provide health facilities to the children admitted at the hospital, however doctors at NICH have said that they are making arrangements to transfer the the children to private hospitals.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has taken notice of the deaths of the children in NIH.
Nearly 5,000 nurse have been campaigning for a Rs10,000 allowance for food and clothes, time-scale promotions, increased stipend for nursing school students, as well as professional health allowance and high risk and hard workers allowance.

I know I most certainly wouldn't be wanting to give a raise to nurses that knowingly let their patients die. I'd rather they be fired.
Human life doesn't have any value these days...forget dying children, personal benefits are more important to these people. Makes me sick
They should be sacked!!!!
Nurses in this region do ill paid, and more importantly a thankless job. Doctors and patients all scold them. Plus people here have no manners of saying thank you or at least being polite. On the other hand they also come from same society and are often rude. Those in government service are relatively better played and they only are organized and can protest. Those in private sector work for pittance under stress and for long hours.
@ABRAR:
Do you hold the same standard for those charged with providing law and order and protecting the citizens.........
@Truth From Pakistan:
I agree with you as a nurse or doctor you cant do this...government's fault is less than the nurses
@JB:
That is plain silly. You have a government that allows this many deaths in an afternoon in many part of PAK and no one cares. Why are you not upset with the lack of government action to protect its citzens?
And these innocent lambs have suffer their punishment for their birth in the county like Pakistan. May Allah Grants Those Children Heaven And Show Us The Right Path To Humanity. (AMEEN)
Is that government waiting for more lives to talk to them? Requesting to Nurses as well, please adopt any alternate way to protest. Like talk to the post office union and get there support to do the protest on your behalf with stopping mails. Please understand your profession, which does not allow you for such negligence.
If people could simply say "this dead child could me mine", they would probably not do what they already have no matter how genuine their demand is! Who in these government hospitals can afford private hospitals? If they had such means, they would not have gone to government hospitals in the first place. This is an organised crime and should be dealt with same charges. All these paramedics have gone against the oath they took. Extremely sad indeed!

It is a classic example of uncivilized, uneducated and illiterate nation. First the doctors in Lahore and then the nurses in Karachi, they don’t have heart, they don’t deserve to practice this noble profession. These people (young doctors association and nurses in Karachi) are the real enemy of mankind. Instead of giving them harsh punishment they should be stoning to death. They are the real pig of the society.
Don't they have kids at home? The problem is between government and health workers the kids had nothing to do with it!! What about the parents? They are left void and this misfortune is inflicted up on them, the government is immoral, blind and deaf, but have the most noble people (health operators - under oath) have also become immoral and blind?
If nurses depend on government for raise of there salary then nothing happend they must depend on ALLAH ALIGHTY and i think government and nurses both are reponsible for the death of children
This article blatantly blames the nursing staff for the deaths of the three children but fails to understand that the emergency is never closed in these strikes. No child facing a life threatening ailment is ever denied medical care. So before we start making accusations, we should understand that the children who died were probably given the same medical care they would have received otherwise.
Is that government waiting for more lives and then set on negotiations table? Also requesting with Nurses, please attend and take care for critical condition patients, don't take lives just to rise in salaries?
There is no humanity left..three children dead...I know its their right to protest but it should be organized atleast in such a way that there is no causualties ..this is more fault of the protesters than government..
How can these people sleep at night? Knowing their actions (or lack thereof) have resulted in deaths of three children who aren't even a party to the problem?? Where did morality go? Both the government and the nurses are at fault! They should be ashamed of themselves!
