ISLAMABAD:

Save an inspector, the entire team of around 30 officials of Koral police station has been replaced following the breakout of four carjackers from the station’s lockups. The new appointments were made on Saturday on the orders of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malik Muhammad Yousaf.

Additional SHO Inspector Akhtar Awan has been appointed acting SHO of the police station, while the station’s former SHO, Sajjad Bukhari, has been transferred to Rescue 15 office, sources told The Express Tribune.

Four carjackers, including three Afghans, broke out of lockups of Koral police station on Friday, along with two others. They were being detained by the police on physical remand for three days, following their arrest in a police raid on Wednesday. The carjackers were wanted in multiple cases of car snatching and theft, and were also in the list of high-profile criminals.

Immediately following the breakout, six police officials deputed at the station: duty officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ghulam Jillani, investigation officer ASI Abdul Qadir, and four constables, were booked for negligence and dereliction of duty.
