Murdered Scholar: Maulana Abdur Rashid’s car recovered

The Sabzi Mandi police found the Vitz parked near Belgium Town in Bhara Kahu.

The city police on Saturday recovered the car of renowned religious scholar Dr Abdur Rashid Azhar, who was found dead in his house last week.


Dr Azhar’s suspected killers escaped in his Toyota Vitz (SA 178). They allegedly ate lunch with Dr Azhar his before strangulating him and fleeing in his car.

The Sabzi Mandi police found the Vitz parked near Belgium Town in Bhara Kahu.

Dr Azhar was found dead in his house in Sector I-10/1 last Saturday night. The post mortem report confirmed that he was strangulated.

His wife told the police that Dr Azhar brought home two guests for lunch. The family heard his car engine start at around 4 pm and thought he was leaving with his guests to drop them off. Later, after failing to get a response on his phone, the family found him dead in his guest room.

Dr Azhar,60, belonged to Khanewal District, and was an eminent religious scholar of the Ahle Hadith school of thought. He was also a director at the embassy of Saudi Arabia.
