The day started with a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals, followed by a change-of-guards ceremony held at Allama Iqbal’s Mausoleum in Lahore.
A contingent of Pakistan Air Force took charge under the supervision of Air Commodore Sohail Ahmad.
Ahmad laid a wreath at the mausoleum and offered prayers.
To commemorate the 72nd Pakistan Day, the governor and chief minister of Sindh visited Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi to pay tribute to the leadership and services of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
During their visit, the guard changing ceremony was also initiated at the mausoleum and the officials laid wreaths on Jinnah’s grave.
Representatives of all three armed forces and a large number of citizens were also present at the mausoleum.
Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah said that the resolution was passed by Quaid’s political vision and that the day is of great importance for Pakistan.
Shah said that Jinnah wanted political, economic and cultural independence for Muslims.
Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad said that Quaid-e-Azam’s vision united Muslims of the sub-continent as one nation. He added that stability in all democratic institutions was necessary for national progress.
March 23 is celebrated every year to commemorate the adoption of Pakistan Resolution by the All India Muslim League in 1940 at Lahore’s Minto Park (now Iqbal Park). The resolution demanded a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent.
The Lahore Resolution proved to be a successful culmination of the long struggle by the Muslims of the subcontinent for their emancipation from British colonial rule.
It took about seven years after the Pakistan Resolution to give final shape to the new state of Pakistan, which has been described by the historians as a unique and unparalleled event in the history of the contemporary world.

Now we have only days to celebrate and to make promises/pledges and when the time of practicals comes we show as usual disunity, hatred and enmity.
Happy and blessed Pakistan Day to all Pakistanis.
The sweetest part of this day is reading comments from the Hindustanis - guys, your hypocrisy is one of the many things from which we are grateful to have broken away in 1947.
@'IndianKid' - when Christians in Orissa and Muslims in Occupied Kashmir are given their liberty, maybe then you can lift your head and start wagging fingers about minority rights. LOL, you guys are hilarious.
@'Mandeep' - check the stats kiddo, your country is suffering levels of poverty that are inconceivable even the poorest slums of Pakistan. Turn your nation into a powerhouse instead of a giant sewer with a handful of skyscrapers, because the world is laughing at your sub-Saharan standards of living.

Happy Pakistan Day to Pakistanis. Let us remember that we are lucky to be free and to have a nation to call our own. No matter what, this is a special day that pays homage to the sacrifices of our elders and ancestors.
The biggest need of the hour is Rule of Law. This is the only thing that will keep politicians from stealing, generals from stealing and tearing up the Constitution, and the extremists from killing innocents.
Happy Pakistan day to Pakistanis all around the world. @ Indians Your comments are not needed in this regard as this day is of no concern to you.
Happy Pakistan Day to all my fellow countryment! Remember, United We Strong
Congratulations and best wishes to all Pakistanis on the anniversary of the promulgation of the first constitution on March 23, 1956 - the first Republic Day of Pakistan
@Yash You will get confused if u will listen to some confused journalists....Pakistan Resolution was presented on 23rd March & that's what we celebrate 23rd March as Pakistan Day when idea for a separate homeland was presented...
We need the parade back!!
Happy Pakistan's Day to everyone! We as a nation have gone through a lot. We have endured and survived. No matter how bruised we are, we are still standing and Our spirits and very much alive. Thats a brave Nation! Lets celebrate on a very positive note here:)
@indiankid, Mandeep, Let it go brothers, this is not the moment. Show a bigger heart and congratulate us, If not leave the negativity for some other time. We accept critisim, but dont make it a habbit. there are better times for it!
"Nation celebrates Pakistan Day in high spirits" where are the high spirits? i haven't seen any, what is there for us to celebrate? only corruption, terrorism, vulgarity and hypocrites that we see everyday in our media, what to celebrate??? where to celebrate???
In spite of the multiple crises Pakistan faces on the 72nd anniversary of the passage of Pakistan Resolution in Lahore, Goldman Sachs' Jim O'Neill has reaffirmed Pakistan's place on his growth map of BRIC+N11 nations. O'Neill forecasts that Pakistan's economy will be among the top 20 economies of the world by 2025. Given the country's historical economic data over the last 64 years, I remain optimistic that Pakistan can and will easily beat Jim O'Neill's current forecast in the coming decades.

The 24 hours aerial firings with the most sophisticated automatic weapons from the people of Pakistan, this 21-gun salute is not more then a grotesque ceremony.
What will the minorities celebrate on this day? Every lecture is about Muslim, etc. So this day cannot be national day for Pakistan, it should be a special day for Muslim Pakistanis only.
InshAllah one day we will be unite as one nation and these corrupt leaders and commanders will become part of history , Pakistan Zindabad
