KARACHI: Tensions mounted for the fourth consecutive day in Lyari as protestors turned violent and took to the streets against raids and operations by law enforcement agencies.
Express News reported that hand grenades were thrown at shops and hotels during early hours of the day in the Lea Market area, after which businesses were forced to close down.
Protestors pelted policemen with stones and demanded that police stop undue raids and operations. The security personnel also fired tear gas at the protestors.
Traders say that the police has failed to secure calm and peace in Lyari, which is destroying business.
According to a police source, the targeted operations have contributed to more than 15 arrests pertaining to heinous crimes.

@sindhvoice the operation is targeted where the extortionist cell phone rings. unfortunately it rings from lyari or interior sindh. Dont act like as you just drop intp the scene and have not read/hear news on daily basis. All the kidnappers, ransom kidnappers, extortionist, and drug mafia are based in lyari or reside under waderas house in interior sindh. go watch "meri kahani meri zubani/ wardaat/qaidi no/ geo fir etc etc" go read sindhi newspaper of khairpur, nawabshah, jacobabad. they are all full of news.
and still you ask why this operation is targeted? shame on you.. to politicise the basic problem of the residents of sindhs.
Why only Lyari?? Why not Nazimabad or Azizabad? One sided operation creates more questions and suspensions.
Dear ET, you have enough space for the news relative to Religious groups and big extortionist and violent groups of Karachi but what a pity, you dont give sufficient or due coverage to the liberal, progressive and nationalist voice of Sindh and Baluchistan. There is big march of Sindhi Nationalist group going in Karachi? No news at all? This is stark difference in your editorial policy. We people of Sindh condemn it.
