Preparing for dengue: WHO trains 66 data operators

4,000 bookle­ts and 5,000 poster­s handed over to EDO for distri­bution.

A one-day training workshop was organised on Thursday for Health Department’s data entry operators. The event was organised jointly by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Health Department.


Sixty-six newly appointed data entry operators from Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Multan attended the workshop.

The operators were educated about surveillance and control methods by training manager Dr Nadeem Zaka while a Punjab Information Technology Board consultant, Majeed Shareef, explained the use of dengue patient information relaying system, dengue decrease reporting system, Google mapping and complaint statistics.

The WHO has published literature on Dengue Control and Prevention.

The World Health Organisation’s Punjab Surveillance officer Dr Arslan recently met EDO (Education) Pervaiz Akhtar and handed over 4,000 booklets and 5,000 posters for distribution to help create awareness among school children about the dengue virus.
