Swimming: Magnussen sets year’s fastest time

ADELAIDE: World champion James Magnussen warned his rivals to ‘brace’ themselves after clocking the year’s fastest time when he won the 100-metres freestyle final at the Australian Olympic trials yesterday. Magnussen won in 47.10 seconds (s) to book a spot in the sprint event at this year’s London Olympics, while James Roberts finished second with a time of 47.63s. “I feel pretty confident after that swim, but I’m certainly not going to rest on my laurels,” said Magnussen.  “I’ll be doing everything in my power to break the world record because I want to be considered the fastest man in history.” Meanwhile, six-time Olympic medallist Libby Trickett was fifth-fastest  in the women’s 100m freestyle semi-final with a time of 54.19s as Cate Campbell (53.84s) finished top.
