Asia Cup: Pakistan win by 21 runs against hosts Bangladesh

The two teams were playin­g the openin­g match of the Asia Cup one-day tourna­ment in Dhaka.

DHAKA: Pakistan defeated hosts Bangladesh by 21 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup one-day tournament in Dhaka on Sunday.

They had scored a competitive 262-8 off 50 overs against Bangladesh.

Hafeez (89) and Nasir Jamshed (54) hit half-centuries for Pakistan, while paceman Shahadat Hossain (3-53) and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (2-41) were the main wicket-takers for Bangladesh in the day-night match.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim had elected to field after winning the toss against Pakistan in the opening match of the Asia Cup one-day tournament in Dhaka on Sunday.

Defending champions India and Sri Lanka are the other teams in the fray. Each side will play the other once in the round-robin league, with the top two advancing to the final on March 22.

Bangladesh: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Nazimuddin, Jahurul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam, Shahadat Hossain.
