Wind power project to start production in Dec

Turkish group setting up 56MW project in Jhimpir.

ISLAMABAD:

A Turkish wind power project, being set up in Sindh’s coastal area of Jhimpir with a capacity of 56 megawatts, is expected to start production from December this year, say officials of the company working on the project.

A three-member delegation of Zorlu Energy Group of Turkey, led by Ibrahim Sinnon, said this in a meeting with Federal Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar.

Sinnon said financial close of the renewable energy project had been achieved and all other requirements had also been met. “Construction on the site has begun,” he said.

Expressing satisfaction with the investment-friendly environment in Pakistan, he said Turkish investors were setting up another wind power project of 200 megawatts and work had also started.

For the project, the delegation sought land in the wind corridor of Sindh’s coastal area.

Praising Turkish investment in alternative energy, Naveed Qamar said it would attract more investors to
the sector.

He said the government planned to generate 1,500 megawatts on fast track basis from wind energy, adding upfront tariff had been announced to facilitate the investors.

He assured the delegation that land for the 200-megawatt project would be provided on lease and directed the Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) to take up the matter with the Sindh government.
