Stop and pay: Ring Road starts taking its toll

Ban on motorbikes and three-wheelers relaxed until signs are posted.

The Ring Road Authority, on Thursday, started collecting toll at 26 entry points on the 47 km long Ring Road.

The Authority has, however, relaxed its ban on motorbikes and three-wheelers for now claiming that security on service lanes and major turning points was one of the reasons for the relaxation.

Ring Road security in-charge Col (retd.) Asim told The Express Tribune that there has been a slight delay in posting signs warning bikers and three wheelers from using the Ring Road. He said the campaign would start after signs were posted. He said that educating the people on banning of bikes was very important. Col (r) Asim said it was important to educate people about banning motorbikes and such a ban would be eased into place so that there would be no public outcry.

Chief Traffic Officer Sarfaraz Falki told The Express Tribune that the Authority had a complete right as to whether motorbikes could be allowed on the road. He said bikes will have to be banned ultimately. He said when orders would be issued the wardens would ensure compliance.
