ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has advised President Asif Ali Zardari to award Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, in recognition to her great achievement, said PM house spokesperson.

Chinoy’s documentary “Saving face” won an Oscar award under the category ‘Best Documentary, Short Subject’.

In her acceptance speech, Chinoy dedicated the award to “all the heroes working on the ground in Pakistan” including British Pakistani plastic surgeon Dr Mohammad Jawad, main subjects of the documentary and the women of Pakistan.

The documentary, which is filmed across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the small towns of Punjab, was released in the US in November. It is due to release in the UK in March 2012, following which it will be released in Pakistan.

While getting an Oscar is a great achievement, why hilal e imtiaz? Has she done this documentary for Pakistan? No. It was done for international audience and thats why it hasn't premiered in Pakistan yet. This governemt has made a mockery of national awards anyways. May be they should start selling all these awards in Islamabad Jumaa bazaar.
