The women declared kari were earlier kidnapped by members of Jatoi community in relation to a three-year old conflict between the two communities but were later released after intervention by some influential people of the area.
According to Express News, police have recovered both the women from the jirga and are conducting further investigation into the matter.
It was earlier reported that one of the women declared kari had been killed.
675 'honour killing' victims in Pakistan: HRCP
At least 675 Pakistani women and girls were murdered during the first nine months of 2011 for allegedly defaming their family’s honour, a leading human rights group had said.
Despite some progress on better protecting women’s rights, activists say the government needs to do far more to prosecute murderers in cases largely dismissed by police as private, family affairs.
“A total of 675 women and girls were killed in the name of honour across Pakistan from January to September [2011],” a senior official in the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan told AFP.
They included at least 71 victims under the age of 18.
The Commission reported 791 honour killings in 2010 and there was no discernible decrease this year, the official added.

Which century is it in Pakistan?????
Such heinous crimes should be considered terrorism and be subject to anti-terrorist laws and courts.
It's funny how Pakistan considers itself some kind of representation of Islam's greatness. You make people not want to go anywhere near it. Maybe even fatal. I'm sure your God is proud.
@Pakistani: good words of Quran are already forgotten. it is only words like jihad and conversion etc in there distorted form that is what being practiced by the thekedars of religion
If a woman having illicit relations with a male, according to custom of karo kari, she is kari and her punishment is death. But in a number of cases their loved ones - fathers, brothers, husbands and sons, kill innocent women for their own purposes like get rid of their wife, for property, for revenge, for defeat of enemy, for getting another woman from enemy tribe and for hiding any committed crime. They know that they are killing innocent woman.
Tribal people, police and tribal mediators are involved in this inhuman practice of karo kari. A report of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan indicates: "The police in Kashmore charged Rs 7,000 to keep silent about karo kari murders. They never recorded cases and there is zero per cent crime rate." http://www.jadedragon.com/travel/pakistan.html
Where are law enforcement agencies???
@ Mir Agha, Kari (Karo for men) is a term used in Sindh for those women who are found guilty of indecency, vulgarity or fleeing and marrying outside tribe, which offends prevalent morality, customs and traditions of tribals. Punishment of such act could be death or sometimes setllements are made with cash, cattle and women.
Jirga System in the country is enforced a parallel judicial system in the country which is illegal and unlawful.
It is up to the parliament to pass the bill that it should be made a non-bailable offense and no one should be allowed to hold Jirga anywhere in the country and if any person will do so, they he should be immediately arrested and put behind the bars.
Unless stringent actions will not be taken, the centuries old system will remain in the country and people will have to suffer from the decision made by the illiterate members of Jirgas.
what does Kari mean?
@ Anwar, definitely there is a disconnect between the rest of humanity and the muslims of this part of the world. Please study further in the internet, and you will find the answear why is such?
@faraz: provide us some hadith and Quranic reference to this kind of Sharia law, u r propagating
these ppl should be completely removed from system or they should get a life totally madness.
Straightforward question. If this happened in India, everyone here would be blaming caste/tribal system. And I must accept the accusation in such situation in all probability would have been correct.
But then the question arises, what was the point in changing the religion if such things had to continue in Islamic republic even when they are disappearing elsewhere?
Maybe it's time to start tossing the members of the Jirga who make such pronouncements in jail - they should bear the consequences of their actions and accessory to murder/kidnapping etc is a crime.
I would kindly request Express Tribune, please don't mix Urdu with English. It is not going to help the readers with your JIrga, Kari, Jatoi etc. etc.
Throughly despicable system. Crimes, rape, murder and other brutalities happen in every country. It's how the state reacts and punishes those guilty differentiates savage, criminal states from civilized states. In savage states, the laws and courts are framed to protect the perpetrators of savagery , in civilized states the laws act harshly on the perpetrators of violence.
@Pakistan politics: That is probably the worst thing that you can do. Who is worse than the tribals? The Mullah of course.
What happens to those women who are kidnapped and returned after sometime. Are they accepted back well or they are shunned by their own community after their return?
Never understand PAK; they pay their hard earned money to see veena mailk in skimpy clothes, elect women but also strip them naked, subject them to gang rape, parade in Karachi fashion festival, and women in PAK go about their regular routine as if nothing happens.
Two separate societies, none cares for the other.
@kaalchakra:
'These women' did not follow Islam?! What about the Jirga's un-Islamic inhuman criminal act?! These women were murdered based on unproven allegations!! Biwi Aisha was saved by Islam when her honour was falsely smeared for "not following Islam" by rumour mongers and malicious speculators, but sadly those Quranic verses that saved her are twisted by conservative misogynist extremists to always blame women!!
Shame on you, Kaalchakra....
What is the meaning of "kari"???
Will someone please tell me?
How come Women are the only one forced to convert declared Kari and paraded naked in village?
@Anwar: This is so true. It seems that this dear country is in an irrecoverable spin
The whole jirga should be in prison under charges of murder!
@Pakistan politics: Sharia courts will do the same excesses but with another name. Secular courts with feminist sensibilities, recognising individualism and gender equality are needed.
@ Pakistan politics
Actually according to Sharia law, if a brother kills his sister for any reason (honor killings etc.), the father of the victim can pardon the killer i.e his son.
Gift from the liberal PPP for the people of interior Sindh!
Sad that these women did not follow Islam.
When will this tribal mentality end? the tribal system always places women as second class humans, they get no rights, the men in the family are made to be their owners and masters.
Sharia courts should be established to handle such cases
The propensity for violence and bloodshed in Muslim communities is just appalling. There is a very definite disconnect with the rest of humanity. I sincerely hope that the elders look at this closely.
