PPP core committee meets in Islamabad

Core committee meeting chaired by Zardari, discussing political situation after Senate polls and Aslam Gill's defeat.

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Core Committee is currently underway in Islamabad. The meeting is being chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari.

Zardari had summoned the meeting to discuss the political situation after Senate elections. The meeting is also being attended by coalition members from FATA and the Awami National Party (ANP).

Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting had been summoned to discuss the joint session of Parliament and Aslam Gill’s unexpected defeat during Senate polls.

Babar said that the committee will also discuss the elections for chairman and deputy chairman of Senate, and will also consider names of possible candidates. He said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was also present during the meeting and discussed the overall political situation and other important issues with those present.

The meeting has been summoned by the President to increase more inflation in the country.
