Freedom of press: MQM condemns case against Mir

Warrants should be cancelled immediately, government should take back the cases, says MQM leader.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has condemned the registration of a case against television anchor Hamid Mir and subsequent issuance of warrants against him, terming it an attempt to curb the freedom of press, according to a press release issued on Sunday. Hussain said the warrants should be cancelled immediately and that the government should take back the cases. Expressing solidarity with the journalist community, he said the anchor could not be intimidated by the coercive actions of the state.He said the case against Mir was a cause for concern for the democratic forces in the country and must be addressed to prevent unrest in the media.

Our press lacks norms and limits of free press or media,always talk about corruption but never produced in solid case against govt.Always incite people around.
