Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Nisar said a possible extension would also make a case for government’s indictment.
In a press conference earlier, Nisar had said there are a lot of competent generals who are capable of filling this post, “and I hope that the army itself will devise a strategy to replace Pasha.”
He added: “During Pasha’s service, Pakistan witnessed massive intelligence failures such as the raid in Abbottabad; the Mumbai tragedy; the attack on Mehran Base Karachi; the Memogate scandal and Nato air strike on the Salala check post. It was unfortunate that despite all this, Pasha claims that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani stopped him from resigning his post, which is strange for us.”
The Opposition Leader had earlier in a press conference on Thursday said that other, competent Generals, ought to be given a chance to run the agency.

I have been following up on many things in Pakistan. This issuce being one of them. Army is a government's department adn governments can do whatever they want to with it. It is nothing where political leaders, specially the ones NOT in government or having any influence should have any say. Mr.Nisar IS a confused person and is against the intelligence chief because he has nothing else to talk about or hold a press conference about. As for the Silala incident, its common sense that it just happened all of a sudden. If people think that ISI chief should have known that it would happen, then its stupid of them. After all he is human and not GOD. As for other generals, there are other posts and the Pakistani Army is capable enough to manage them according to their potentials. If the parliamentarians are allowed 5 years then why not other important posts like COAS and DG ISI? Both thumbs up and good prayers and wishes for this brave son of the soil. May he remain there for another 5 years.
Is Pasha going or not?
Why not try other Generals, whats wrong with that??? other Generals also deserve to be selected for the post, and remember this is also one of the reason that has Divided army in to two groups
A general who in a decent country would have been shown the door for incompetence - or would have honorably fallen on his own sword - is angling for a 3rd-time extension in his tenure. Only in Pakistan!
@jibran: Theres No ambiguity in whatever he said. Improve your reading & understanding skills!
GEN.PASHA should leave honorably and not accept any extension
@Babur Chughtai: No, no country hates a good chief of intelligence. They're never given reason to that they are aware of.
I wish Ch saheb had clarified as well his late-night meetings with the generals? This statement seems to be in frustration of the negative outcome (or no outcome) of those encounters.
@Babur
" Pasha is firm on Pakistani national interests . . . " ??
Does that mean all other PAK ARMY officers are not worth a trust for the same ?
Confused spokesman of a confused party!
So who is the real Boss....????
Gen Pasha is one of the few bold and straight shooting ISI chiefs in recent times. A man tailored for the job. Kayani knows that. Pasha is firm on Pakistani national interests and will not tolerate other countries meddling in our turf. He also don't like politicians secretly meeting foreign officials. That is why our lousy politicians dont like him.. US also don't like him. All this means he should stay ...
In not too distant past this matter would have been decided in the back rooms of the power corridors without a whiff to the general public.
Democracy, however brief in tenure, is paying off its' dividends. Keep the military away from coup d'etats and you will continue to prosper and strengthen. I believe Pakistan is a great nation but needs to find its' bearings.
There should be a law NO extensions to ANYONE serving in ANY Government department! these extensions are hurdles in the way of institutional development. is Army that incompetent that its performance is based on ONE man ? we already have 2 Army chiefs for the more than a DECADE NOW. for God's sake its the right of other officers to get on the top as well!
Someone to speak against Khaki Imperialism! Kudos to Nisar for being LOUD!
@rashid: What statements?!?!?!
I think PML-n is playing with a straight bat here ; and they are courageous enough to say this...
Good show PML-n!
The fact that anyone is even considering extending the term of Pasha is disturbing and says something profoundly negative about Pakistan.
These top generals have failed the nation too many times. Even the most decorated generals do not get the kind of extenstions after extensions our generals are used to. Let the civilians put our foot down, no more extenstions. You have already had your innings and perks now go and enjoy them. Please leave us alone after this long. There must be some compentent and desrving generals in over half a million strong army. Or better make a neutral retired SC judge, chief of the ISI like most other countries. Army should demand this to clean its reputation.
If this turns out to be true, it will really be amusing to watch the after effects.
Not giving Pasha an extension for ISI and instead putting him as the head of the SPD is equally as bad if not worse. Don't want our neuclear assets to be comprimised like ISI was.
@ Ch. Nisar you are getting personal on Pasha
Well said. Why every time they are giving the extensions. Let the system of merit be continue. If he gets extension for the third time then its mean we do not have other competent generals to do this job. What about the intelligence failures of this DG ISI??? Can we forget????? What a joke with this nation! Extensions & Extensions!!!
this the 3rd time he is changing his statement
