ISLAMABAD:

From giraffe to pencil shaped cars to ones that can fly and submerge, children dreamt it all.

A select number of sketches and paintings of dream cars, from thousands of submissions in Islamabad, were put on display at an event hosted by Toyota Indus Motors here on Thursday.

The creative works were by students in age categories of under 10, 10 to 12 and 13 to 15. These students had participated a month back in Toyota’s Sixth Dream Car Art Contest in their respective schools. The competitions were aimed at inspiring creativity among the students and to give them a chance to inspire car manufacturers to translate their dreams into reality.

The venue was adorned with an assortment of coloured balloons and apart from the display, a magic show was held to entertain the students and their accompanying parents. Anchor and journalist Talat Hussain and celebrities Jamal Shah and Leila Zuberi presented awards to the students.

“My dream car is in the shape of a pencil, which can easily slide through traffic when all other cars are stuck,” said one of the participants.

Another participant, Saad, said, “My dream car is the best because it has boost technology.”

Toyota Indus Motors Chief Executive Officer Pervez Ghias told The Express Tribune that these drawings reflect the students’ emotions. He said people around the world are now working on concepts of cars that are more personalised. “This is a chance for children to let their imaginations go wild on paper,” he added.

The contests were earlier held in 290 schools across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and received around 12,000 entries. Fifteen works will be selected and those pupils, along with their parents, will have the chance to visit Japan, or even better, have their dream cars realised.

The competition is held annually and the best works from 120 countries are rounded up and awarded.

A similar event will be held in Lahore tomorrow.
