Lost on hope, PPP stalwart Dr Israr Shah to join PTI

After decades long association and losing both his legs for the party, Shah decides to switch alliance.

ISLAMABAD: After decades long association, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart Dr Israr Shah has decided to quit the party to join Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The formal announcement of Shah joining the PTI will be made on Thursday (today) evening, during a press conference with Khan.

Shah had lost both of his legs during a party rally held in favour of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad on July 17, 2007. He was a close ally of former PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and was considered to be one of the pioneers of the party.

However, after writing a letter against Babar Awan’s nomination as the law minister in 2008, Shah infuriated PPP co-chairman President Asif Ali Zardari who cancelled his membership from the Central Executive Committee.

Furthermore, after the recent nomination of Aitzaz Ahsan for the Senate seats, Shah lost his last hope with the party and decided to switch.
