KARACHI: The 28th National Skiing Championship began in Naltar yesterday with 56 athletes from 12 teams vying for the top position in the slalom and giant slalom events. The event features athletes from PAF, Army, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Adventure Foundation, Gilgit Baltistan Scouts, Alpine Club of Pakistan, Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Fata and Khyer-Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan Skiing Federation Secretary Mussarat Ali said the national championship had been scheduled to begin on February 15 but was delayed due to weather as there was not enough snowfall.  “It’s encouraging that the HEC has brought a lot of talented skiers and our collaboration with them means that we can promote the sport in universities and colleges in a better way,” said Ali.
