KARACHI:

A five-year-old girl was raped and killed in Orangi Town, said the police. They claim to have detained four men for their alleged involvement in the case. The girl, ‘S’, was kidnapped outside her house in Muslimabad four days ago. Her family said that she went to buy candy from a store near the house. The parents filed a complaint at the Pirabad police station.

On Sunday, her father Kareem Gul, who works as a pushcart vendor, found the body in an empty plot next to his house. He took the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A source at the hospital told The Express Tribune that ‘S’ was raped, tortured and starved for two days. The police claim that the family was not cooperating with them. According to Pirabad SHO Pervez Gujjar, the five-year-old’s father told police that she was dead by the time he found her in the empty plot.

The SHO added that Gul changed his statement later and said that she was alive when he found her.

The authorities have detained four neighbours on the family’s suspicion and said that they would detain more people, including relatives.

They said that initial investigation suggested that the incident took place over personal enmity but nothing could be finalised till the family cooperated.
