Boosting the flagging morale of the police force is the highest priority of the new inspector general (IG) of Punjab Police, Habeebur Rehman, he told The Express Tribune on Saturday.
In a brief chat at his office, the new IG said that this was essential “so that the police can wage jihad against criminals and anti-social elements and meet people’s expectations”.
He said in order to achieve this goal, he would reward the honest and hard working personnel and marginalise “the black sheep”. He said only capable officers would get key posts.
“We are also working to streamline the investigation process so that it is quicker and more effective,” he said, adding that the police would strengthen their liaison with the courts.
Asked about the abductions of American aid expert Warren Weinstein, Shahbaz Taseer, Aamir Malik and foreign workers, he said he was looking into them and hoped for “good news” soon.
Earlier, the IG announced that he would hold daily open courts from 9am to 10am at his office starting from Tuesday and asked all regional police officers, district police officers and sub divisional police officers to hold regular open courts in their areas to redress people’s concerns.

Raising the police's morale is IG's top priority!!!!!! Much the best and very impressive statement but for this purpose only do one thing,id est,depoliticize police because police is being misused by the leaders,politicians,some key police's officials and bureaucrats in Pakistan and make strong and effective accountability laws for police's officials and implement them without any interference and pressure for every one in the police department.
