Tennis: Ferrer books spot in Copa Claro semis

Top-seed David Ferrer of Spain beat Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-2, 6-4 to progress to the Copa Claro semi-finals. “It was a difficult match,” said Ferrer. “Gonzalez is a great player — one of the greatest in history.” Ferrer’s opponent in the last-four is David Nalbandian, who defeated fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, second-seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain also advanced with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Igor Andreev. Almagro faces Stanislas Wawrinka in the semi-finals after the Swiss sixth-seed defeated fourth-seed Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-4, 6-2.
