MARANA:

Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy continued their assault on the world number one ranking by reaching the quarter-finals of the World Golf Championships Match Play Championship. England’s Westwood got the better of American Nick Watney 3-and-2, a day after the latter dispatched 14-time major champion Tiger Woods.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland’s McIlroy managed to survive once more without playing his best, taking down Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez 3-and-1. Both McIlroy and Westwood can overtake Luke Donald as world number one with a victory in the elite event and are currently on a collision course for a semi-final showdown.
